Birch Ridge Community Forest

Monday, October 26th, 2020

Dear friends of Camp Birch Hill.

As we enter the fall season and witness the beautiful scenic changes around us in New Hampshire, we
miss you terribly and look forward to the 2021 camp season. But exciting things are happening here in
New Durham and I wanted to take a moment to let you know about an opportunity to preserve more
than 1,100 acres of scenic forestland just down the road from Camp Birch Hill.

Currently, our good friends at the Southeast Land Trust of New Hampshire (SELT) are in the middle of a
fundraising campaign to conserve some critical lands surrounding Merrymeeting Lake. SELT is a non-
profit conservation organization serving our region – and in 2019 they successfully completed the
protection of the 2,027-acre Birch Ridge Community Forest in New Durham.

View from Mount Molly in New Durham, New Hampshire.

In short, this year there is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to conserve another 1,100 acres of
critical watershed for both Merrymeeting Lake and Marchs Pond. This effort will preserve Mount
Molly – a wonderful spot for day hikes with scenic views of Merrymeeting – and expand the Birch Ridge
Community Forest. Learn more at www.keepmerrymeetingclean.org.

The Morell family has joined in this effort with our own contribution because we value the water quality of Merrymeeting Lake and Marchs Pond – both of which will only be enhanced by protecting these lands.

We also see these protected lands as scenic places that complement the activities and offerings of Camp Birch Hill – with trails to roam for our campers.

If you are interested in supporting this campaign, now is the perfect time to give!
Right now there is a matching challenge happening through October 26.

That means, every gift you give will be instantly matched, and we’ll be that much closer to conserving these lands for all time.
If you would like to contribute or learn more about this effort, please visit www.keepmerrymeetingclean.org.

You can also contact Brian Hart, SELT’s Executive Director anytime at [email protected] or 603-778-6088
to learn more about the different pledge options that are available. For example, your pledges can be spread over three tax years!

But hurry – the matching challenge ends on October 26!
Thank you for your time and your consideration of this important initiative!

Warm wishes,
Chrissy Morell Carter
