Birch Hill Summer 2013 Session 1 Update 1Birch Hill Summer 2013 Session 1 Update 1Campers and staff have waited for this moment for eight months – the kind of classic New Hampshire charm mixed with the enthusiasm; part sparkle, part sunshine that creates a gorgeous camp for which campers come from all over the world to be a part of. Sunday marked the nothing short of epic return of the campers for the commencement of session 1 of the 2013 Birch Hill season. Joyous screams of reunion and smiles got everyone settled into their cabin before opening day orientation. Orientation gave new campers a chance to get acquainted with the camp grounds and old returning campers a nice refresher on where the big spots are – namely the stables, the (newly redone!) rock wall, the dodgeball arena, and of course the waterfront. The rain in the evening gave campers a very nice opportunity to see some lip-sync (a Birch Hill specialty whereby choreography is set to music and brilliantly performed… former winners have gone on to win the Birch Hill Cup) performances by counselors before relaxing in the cabins and going over cabin as well as camp rules!A THRILLING and BEAUTIFUL B-Day got its start in camper’s activities – ranging from theater to music, rock wall to cooking, LAX to backyard games, and photography to the waterfront. “Personal Choice (PC) Activities”  rounded out the activities for the day including Birch Ball, Nature Water Coloring, Rock Wall, the Harlem Shake, an outdoor music jam session, and Aladdin musical auditions. A game of counselor hunt finished the day after dinner where counselors were assigned to cabins to be dressed up like trees. Post rolling in the mud (and joking requests for hugs were given out) with painting counselors ran to hide in the woods before the campers went around the camp (with the  one counselor of the cabin who was not the lucky one selected to be dressed up) to find the trees!H-Day has continued much like B-Day and we are so grateful to have all the smiling, happy faces back (or newly) at camp! YAHOO-ing and it feels SO GOOD! This entry was posted on Wednesday, June 26th, 2013 at 11:00 am and is filed under BH Resident Blogger – Natalie, Summer Updates.
