Camper Spotlight: May from Cabin J

Thursday, June 1st, 2017

We caught up with camper May who is in her seventh year here at Camp Birch Hill and is going to be a Counselor in Training this summer.  Below is a photo of May’s Cabin from summer 2016, Cabin J!!

CBH:  What does camp mean to you?

MAY:   Camp means a safe place that I can enjoy with all of my long time friends. I have been going for 7 years, and if it wasn’t told by the amount of years I have gone, I love camp!!!

CBH:   How has camp shaped who you are?

MAY:   My parents were searching for summer camps for my sister and I for the summer 7 years back. They found it on an online website and decided to read more on the camp. Seven years later, I am still going.

CBH:  What are some important qualities of a CIT (these can be things that are reflected in your counselors).

MAY:  I believe a CIT should be someone younger campers would look up to. They should also be kind, and helpful to new campers, and to kids who need someone to guide them through their camp experience to make it a better session(s) for them.

CBH:  Do you have a fun memory or camp story you would like to tell?

MAY:   That is such a hard question considering I have so many. I remember about 2 years ago, it was the last day of camp, and it was the birch hill cup ceremony. My cabin and I were waiting for the girls winners to be announced; we were all so nervous, considering it was a tight race between my cabin, and my sister’s, we were very competitive. When they called our cabin, I was the first one up screaming, it was surreal. I couldn’t believe I had won the birch hill cup for the second time. That was one of my favorite memories considering I got to share it with my two counselors and my whole cabin. We will go down in the birch hill hall of famers.

CBH:   What are you favorite activities at camp and why?

MAY:   One of my favorite activities at camp is Ultimate Frisbee, that is where I first fell in love with the game. I have been playing it at camp and outside of camp for two years since the first time I touched a disk at camp. I also love Birch Ball, who doesn’t? It’s such a fun game that anyone can participate in. Last year was the first official year I go into it, and it was such a great choice. I am obsessed with the game, and all the competitive players in it. I hope to keep playing that sport for years to come.

CBH:   What are you most excited for about camp?

MAY:  This will be my last year at camp, and I am so excited to be the oldest campers with some of my dearest friends. I can’t believe my time at Birch Hill, as a camper, is almost up! I am excited to meet new campers and help them with the transition to such a crazy, friendly, and lovably camp.

Thank you for chatting with us May!  We are looking forward to seeing you at camp this summer!  Not long to go now 🙂  YAHOO
